Maples Madness
It's hard to believe how quickly the past 5 months have past. We have been excitingly busy, continuing to build on the success and achievements of the coaches and athletes who came before us started. The goal for Stanford wrestling has moved past the need to survive, and now it's time to thrive. It is no longer about sustenance but rather national prominence. Our goal is to become a profit generating sport, with the realistic expectation of having athletes compete for national titles at every weight class. To achieve this goal, it is imperative we develop an infrastructure of supportive alumni, fans, and administration. After a tumultuous year, I’m happy to say we have the alumni and administration on our side, and now we are focused on cultivating a fan base, particularly within the California wrestling community. The first step in this process is packing Maples Pavilion for the November 13, Oklahoma State dual meet. Although we have experienced a robust ticket presale, we still have a long way to go for a sell-out. Ironically the first Stanford wrestling ticket was officially purchase by former Fresno wrestling coach and California legend Denny DeLiddo. Denny has helped us market our event to his Fresno wrestling crew. Similar thanks go out to Mark Garrison who has helped bring his Chico State wrestling buddies to the Stanford fold. Sadly both programs are no longer in existence but their fans have a home at Stanford. We need to make sure we fill Maples so I am asking everyone to find a way to be here. If you can’t make it please purchase a ticket or ten and donate them back to us. So far, we have sold slightly less than 1,000. Although this is a nice presale we need to keep the momentum going! Tickets to attend the event can be purchased through the following link: Stanford vs. Oklahoma State Dual Tickets.
California RTC To kick off the weekend, the California Regional Training Center will be hosting its first annual golf tournament on November 12. Like the Maples Sell-out we can use your help. So far we have 14 foursomes registered and I would love to get into the mid 20’s. Although I am pleased with the turnout we really need help with our Hole sponsorships. Only 13 more and we are set. I don’t want to have to personally buy that many so please help a brother out! Registration for the event can be found at the following link: California RTC Golf
Wrestlers in Business Accompanying the Stanford/Oklahoma State dual, the Northern California chapter of Wrestlers in Business will host its inaugural meeting. The meeting will take place in the Maples VIP room, located on the east side of the concourse in Maples Pavilion. The event will take place at 1 p.m., an hour before Stanford and Oklahoma State square off. Guest speakers include Oklahoma State head wrestling coach John Smith, and Spartan Race CEO, and wrestling enthusiast, Joe Desena.
Wrestlers in Business is a nonprofit networking group for people and businesses passionate about advancing wrestlers careers, personal growth and the sport. Wrestlers in Business is dedicated to providing an opportunity for the athletes to advance their professional careers and develop a successful network. The event is free and open to the public with the purchase of dual meet ticket. Link to register for event: Wrestlers in Business
Coaches and Wrestlers Clinic And finally to help cultivate our California wrestling community, the Stanford wrestling staff, accompanied by featured guest Oklahoma State associate head coach Zack Esposito, will host a coach and wrestlers’ clinic. The clinic is designed for coaches and athletes to gather insight and experience on all aspects of the sport.
