NWCA Boys State Chairmen Awards Program
“Standard Code of Operations”
Background: Each year, the NWCA administrates the following state, sectional, and national awards through its state chairmen and sectional leader infrastructure:
· Head Boy’s Coach of the Year and a Boy’sAssistant Coaching Staff of the Year in all 50 states as well as the private schools competing in the National Prep Championships.
Submission Deadline Date: April 1, 2023
Selection Protocol: The NWCA wants to ensure that flexibility is provided to accommodate the unique circumstances in each state. However, we also want to make sure that at a minimum, the following protocol is in place to maintain the integrity of the process:
a. The NWCA “State Boy’s Coach of the Year” and “State Boy’s Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year” nomination form must be completed for all eligible coaches (being considered). All coaches selected must be current members in the NWCA.
b. In the OPC states each Head Coach/School is an NWCA member by default. Therefore, we will also consider all of their Asst. Coaches in these states as eligible for this award. In the non-OPC states where active members are contingent upon their purchase of an NWCA membership, so too will their assistant coaching staff members be considered eligible for the award. In essence, if the Head Coach is an active NWCA member then their assistants will also be eligible for the award.
c. Extraordinary accomplishments of the coaches are to be considered in the selection process.
d. Longevity can be considered.
e. The selection process must, at a minimum, involve a committee that is representative of the coaching body throughout the state or, it can be a simple majority of all coaches in attendance who vote.
f. The state chairman must submit the “completed nomination form” of the head coach and assistant coaching staff winners to the NWCA office. This will be accomplished through a submission link provided and distributed by the NWCA office. Please be certain to verify ALL information of the recipient prior to submission. The NWCA will arrange to have awards sent to the state chairman.
· Sectional Boy’s Head Coach of the Year and Sectional Boy’s Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year in all eight (8) sections. These award recipients are selected from the pool of winners in each state within that section.
Deadline Date: May 1, 2023
Selection Protocol: These guidelines shall be followed closely.
a. The NWCA “Section Boy’s Coach of the Year” and “Section Boy’s Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year” nomination form must be completed for all eligible coaches being considered. Sectional Reps. will verify that ALL information is included and contact the State Chair of any state for any missing information on their recipient.
b. Extraordinary accomplishments of coaches are to be considered in the selection process.
c. Longevity can be considered.
d. All state chairmen (within each section) must vote for the “Head Boy’s Coach of the Year” and the “Assistant Boy’s Coaching Staff of the Year (from the pool of winners within their section). A state chairman May NOT vote for the “Head Boy’s Coach of the Year” or the “Assistant Boy’s Coaching Staff of the Year” from his own state.
g. The NWCA office will aggregate the votes and distribute the winners “Bios” to the Section Representatives for future voting on the National Boy’s Head Coach and Asst. Boy’s Coaching Staff of the Year. The NWCA will arrange to have awards sent to the State Chairman who presides over the state represented by the award recipient.
