Hi everyone,
I wanted to bring up an incident yesterday involving Jimmy (Corona HS's Coach) at the CIF consolation rounds for the 135 lbs weight class between Corona and Tustin. During the match, the Tustin athlete suffered an injury. As the injury time was running out, she was getting up but the trainer wouldn't let her. Despite this, the Tustin athlete got up a second or two after the timer and was ready to continue wrestling. The referee, whistle in mouth with both girls at the center, was about to resume the match when Jimmy swooped in, arguing that the Tustin athlete had gotten up too late. The referee, easily influenced, sided with Jimmy and awarded the match to the Corona wrestler.
It's disheartening to see the Tustin athlete's hard work and determination dismissed because of Jimmy's interference. It seems clear that Jimmy recognized the Tustin athlete's superior skills and acted quickly to ensure she couldn't continue. This type of behavior is unacceptable and damages the integrity of the sport and trust in adults.
It's time for the wrestling authorities to step in and address individuals like Jimmy, who prioritize their own egos over the dreams and efforts of dedicated athletes.
So let’s go to video.
Ref indicates injury time at 2:25
Train assist girl up at 4:06
By my math this is 1 minute and 41 seconds. This leaves 9 seconds of injury time available. Let’s say I’m of and say there 5 seconds left. Still time remaining.
Once wrestling is up both wrestlers return to center and what seems to take place is Ref signals toe the line. Corona wrestler pulls band off as if match was called. Could this be due to her team stating match was over? Possible. I’m nice Jimmy realizes ref indicates match to continue he chimes in about injury time. Assuming it was used up.
Now I do not see 25 cif rule for injury. However COF does state they follow nfhs rules unless noted. Per nhfs a total time of 1.50 is giving. It state if a second injury time is taken opposing wrestler get to choose position. If a third is taken it’s dq.
Now where is it stated time runs out it’s dq. How ever it is stated if a wrestler cannot continue due to injury a dq is awarded.
so let’s say time ran out Tustin is getting up trainers have cleared her. I assume the ref confirms if wrestler is good to go or not and makes judgement from there. In this case wrestler showed signs she ready to continue. Where in the rules does it clearly state time runs out you are dq’d?
Let look at boxing guy get knock down there’s an 8 count followed by confirmation by the ref boxer can continue. This confirmation generally take about 2-4 second before match continues. Does the same concept apply in wrestling fir injury time?
Now as far as Jimmy stating he checked in he girl. In the video you see Jimmy about 3-5 feet away learn over and take a look. Is this out of concern for the wrestler or to see if she has a chance to continue?
My guess is the ladder as jimmys girl was a Lower seed.
